August Blog Give Away

Thanks for all the comments last week, I had fun hearing from you. This weeks give away is a copy of the Quilting arts magazine with my Soy Wax Stitch Pattern Resist and a fat quarter with, what else, soy wax resist!
I want to hear about the first surface design technique that you learned.....maybe it was grape jelly down the front of your Grade 3 party dress or art class where you learned about linoprinting. Tell us about it! I'll pick a winner and let you know on Friday.

I think the first surface design technique I learned was tie-dye, when I bought a starter kit in 1997. I had never dyed anything prior to that, so it was scary, and I had no idea 1) how easy it was and 2) how much I would enjoy it! 15+ years later, I'm still at it... I'd say it was a good choice!

oh, I feel like such a beginner at surface design... took a course with Elizabeth Barton to begin with (Quilt U)... some screening and shibori... last winter, it was.

My dyeing friend/accomplice is coming home early from her summer holidays, so we'll be doing soy wax resists sooner than I'd hoped! I've watched your Soy Wax Inspirations DVD once and we'll watch it again together. We are fabric dyeing maniacs so I can't wait to try it out! This is a great giveaway!

After I started dyeing cotton, it was read about this, try that ... and I have no idea what was the first of many surface design techniques I've explored.

I think the first surface design technique I learned was in 1990 when I learned to add fabric medium to craft paints and created fun t-shirts for my children.

Gee, taking my mind that far back is hard. I know we used stamps carved out of potatoes when I was in grade 4. (in the 60's!) We stamped cards (and each other). After that I did lots of fabric crayons on tshirts with my 3 kids in the late 80's early 90's. we still have some of those tshirts around - just found one buried the other day! Thanks Susan.

Hi Everyone, thanks so much for the responses. My very impartial judge read through them all and decided he could relate most to Laura's comments about playing with crayons and t-shirts. he's still a kid at heart! So, Laura email me your contact information and I'll ship out the magazine and fat quarter to you.
Thanks everyone!
